__ The Xiamen East project was carried out in collaboration with RBTA in order to rehabilitate the coastal city of Xiamen experiencing eco-environmental and conservation issues due to rapid industrialization and urbanization and the introduction of self-sufficient city farms.
The Xiamen East project aims to establish a resilient city model capable of absorbing, recovering from, and preparing for future economic, environmental, social, and institutional challenges. Located in a bay city prone to ecological conservation issues, the project integrates "sponge city" principles to manage water sustainably in this waterlogged region of China. Key to its design is the rehabilitation of polluted land, transforming it into thriving city farms that foster self-sufficiency. This approach revitalizes the environment while enhancing community resilience through urban agriculture, ensuring sustainable growth and an improved quality of life for residents.
