__ In 2013, while working for AECOM, Simon led the masterplan for a luxurious resort in the Maldives. Following an on-site charrette and a tour of exclusive 5-star resorts, he created a masterplan that integrates seamlessly with the sensitive environment, meticulously preserving marine life, coral reefs, and existing vegetation.
The project involved developing a comprehensive masterplan for a 400-key resort spanning three closely situated islands. The vision was to create a private and luxurious retreat that caters to a diverse range of visitors and budgets and allows for travel between the islands as part of the hotel package. Central to this initiative was the seamless integration of the natural environment, ensuring that the design harmonized with the existing vegetation and wildlife.
__ The approach aimed to minimize environmental impact while enhancing the guest experience. Emphasizing sustainability and ecological sensitivity, the masterplan prioritized preserving the islands' unique biodiversity, creating an upscale resort that respects and celebrates its natural surroundings.
